CONCERT/CONTEST: Republic Tigers Review & Contest!

Let me just say, as a follow-up to my previous post concerning the Republic Tigers, I did find someone to go with me to their show at Kilby Court in Salt Lake (thank you), and it was amazing.

Having now had a chance to witness, in person, their unique fusion of electro-folk, I consider myself a full convert.

Their recent album, Keep Color, is an experience. Acoustica, electronica, and rock, all blended into an accessible pleasure. To be honest, I was a little anxious to hear them live and see if they could produce and capture what had made me fall in love with them. All my fears were quickly put to rest.
Listen to their music and you can feel the energy, attend one of their shows and prepare to witness that energy.
The Republic Tigers entered without much fanfare and got down to business right away, a business in which they excel.
The Republic Tigers gave us a taste of their best, Golden Sand, Feelin' the Future, Air Guitar, Stranger to the Eyes of a Child-Man, and The Nerve (my personal request which they were gracious enough to play. Bless them.)
Quality stuff.
But for Fight Song, their final song of the evening, they pulled out all the stops.
The driving drum beats throughout this song about blew the place apart.

Flawless, absolutely flawless. Unless you consider that their set was painfully short.

So in celebration of my conversion to all things Republic Tigers - let's have a contest!!

Here's the deal: Just leave us a comment with your name, email, and a description of your favorite tiger and why.

Yep, that's it. It could be a Bengal tiger, a Siberian tiger, that delightfully bouncy Tigger, or the one that got ahold of Roy from Siegfried and Roy. (I hope it's not that one, the world needs magic.)

Be creative. We'll pick our favorite and send you some free Republic Tigers stuff - from tee-shirts to signed copies of their album Keep Color. We'll keep it running for the next two weeks or so - so don't delay! Enjoy the little sample below and tell us about your favorite tiger!

My favorite tigers are of course the Orem Tigers. Being a graduate of Orem High, I am naturally inclined to give preference to all things Orem. However, as recipient of the coveted Senior Superlative award of "Most School Spirit", I am contractually obliged to be an avid and vocal fan of the Orem Tigers henceforth. It's okay, though. Had I won the student council election as I had initially desired, I would be obliged to plan class reunions until the end of time.

Aha!! An easy question.

Shere Khan, of course.

He's big. He's mean. He eats people.

The true King of the Jungle.

What more need I say?

Tony the tiger. Definitely. He's GRRRRRRRRRRRREAT. And so are his frosted flakes.

Plus, he's now the mascot for a new cereal called "Tiger Power", which you have to admit is a pretty awesome name for a cereal. I'll bet all the little kiddos who eat it think they'll turn into Tigers after breakfast.

AND as if that weren't enough, in the UK, Tony's commercials were backed with the well known rock song, "Eye of the Tiger".

He just keeps getting cooler.

I'm going to have to say Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" is my favorite tiger. Who hasn't had a moment when they felt discouraged... but someone starts humming the tune, someone else starts in with the beat, you start singing the words and finally end up jumping up and down with your fists over your head like Rocky on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

It's the eye of the tiger
It's the cream of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all
With the eye of the tiger

So... thank you Rocky and Survivor for all the inspiration anyone will ever need.

PS. You know you were singing along as you read the lyrics.

I like Siberian tigers, just because they're the biggest.

My favourite would have to be Tygra of the ThunderCats. He's smart (he designed the Cat's Lair and the Tower of Omens, after all) and he can freaking turn invisible with that awesome whip of his. He can also make illusions with his mind-power. I think it's pretty obvious why Lion-O chose him as his second-in-command: because Tygra is the most badical tiger ever.

Pretty much the best tiger is the one Dio sings about in Holy Diver, i.e.,

"Ride the tiger/ You can see his stripes but you know he's clean/ oh, don't you know what I mean"
