SONG: Nate Ruess = far from forgotten

This is probably one of the happiest posts I've had the pleasure of throwing up! Here's why:

Reason #1: It's my fellow whale in a cubicle-r's day of birth. Happy 25th dude.

Reason #2: I just got wind today that the Format's Nate Ruess has indeed teamed up with some fellow music-makers, and their first bit of magic has finally surfaced! It was a sad day in February when we learned of the Format's demise, but I know that at least me and Logan have been anxiously awaiting whatever Nate put his pipes to next.

Well, it's here. And it's exactly what I was hoping for. The group is called "fun", and it's not just a clever name - but c'mon, what else would you expect from the guy responsible for Dog Problems? Their myspace says they'll be recording in September, and the record should be out by February next. Good news indeed. Here's the song we have as a taster - it's called Benson Hedges, and it's got just about everything you'd ever want in an end-of-summer daylight's-fading kind of song. I don't know about you, but if this is just the demo, then I really can't wait to hear the whole she-bang!

fun - Benson Hedges (demo)

yea, arizona has a pretty weak music scene (unless you are in to screamo crap) so i was pretty devastated when they broke up. I'm glad to see that nate is continuing in the scene. hopefully sam will also get together with a good singer and put out some good stuff.

Another really good arizona band that i saw with the format right before they broke up is WHAT LAURA SAYS THINKS AND FEELS - they are a little more folksy but still good
